PARIS — The nine-member Oxford County Budget Committee will be selected during selectmen caucuses Wednesday evening in Lovell, Paris and Rumford.
County Commissioners David Duguay of Byron, Steve Merrill of Norway and Caldwell Jackson of Oxford will host caucuses in the county’s three districts.
The Budget Committee’s duties are outlined in state statute, county Administrator Scott Cole said Tuesday.
Selectmen from the 34 towns are invited to attend the caucuses and vote for their representatives to the committee, which will review the budget recommendations made by the commissioners.
Three selectmen will be selected from each district. Two representatives from each district will be elected by fellow selectmen and a third will be chosen by the commissioner representing the district.
Only selectmen are allowed to vote in the caucuses. Cole estimated 10 would show up at each caucus.
County departments will present proposed budgets to the commissioners on Oct. 4 and public hearings on the proposals are held Oct. 15, Cole said.
The Budget Committee will meet Nov. 20 to review and vote on the county budget.
Selectmen from District 1 will meet at the Lions Club in North Lovell at 6 p.m. The district includes the towns of Bethel, Brownfield, Denmark, Fryeburg, Hanover, Hiram, Lovell, Norway, Porter, Stow, Sweden and Waterford and Batchelder’s Grant and Mason Township. Merrill is commissioner of District 1.
Selectmen from District 2 will meet at the Rumford Town Office at 6 p.m. The district includes the towns of Andover, Byron, Canton, Dixfield, Gilead, Hartford, Mexico, Newry, Peru, Roxbury, Rumford, Sumner and Upton and Lincoln Plantation, Magalloway Plantation, Milton Township and the unorganized territories in the northern end of the county. Duguay is commissioner of District 2.
Selectmen from District 3 will meet at 6 p.m. at the Oxford County Superior Courthouse on Western Avenue in Paris at 6 p.m. The district includes the towns of Buckfield, Greenwood, Hebron, Otisfield, Oxford, Paris, Stoneham, West Paris and Woodstock and Albany Township. Jackson is commissioner of District 3.
Each commissioner represents about 18,000 people, Cole said.
