POLAND — A 71-year-old man injured when men broke into his home over the weekend remains hospitalized and three men are in jail charged with robbing him, Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Raymond Lafrance said Thursday in a news release.
Ronald St. Pierre of 21 Julie St. was asleep when men broke into his mobile home through a window at about 5 a.m. Saturday, police said. St. Pierre grabbed his handgun and tried to fight them off, but was overpowered. The intruders took off with a loaded, silver .44 Magnum revolver with a long barrel, clothes, drugs and other items, police said.
At 12:31 a.m. Tuesday, Corey Brume, 20, of Lewiston was arrested at his Elm Street home on charges robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, two counts of theft and violating conditions of release by the Sheriff’s Department.
At 4:32 a.m. Wednesday, Paul Farrell, 21, of Lewiston was arrested at 2 Turner St. on a charge of robbery, sheriff’s officials said.
And at 7:33 p.m. Wednesday, Devin Charest, 22, of Auburn turned himself in to the jail at 40 Pleasant St. and was booked on a charge of robbery, officials said.
All three are being held at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn on $50,000 cash bail, Lafrance said in the release. Their cases are expected to be presented to the Androscoggin County grand jury, Lafrance said.
Brume and Charest have criminal histories in the Lewiston area, including arrests on charges of burglary, robbery and assault. In March 2011, they were arrested together after a high-speed chase that spanned several towns.
A year later, in May 2012, they were arrested after a fight in Auburn. Both men were charged with robbery, assault and burglary in that case.
