THORNDIKE — After a scoreless first half, Kiersten Leclerc tallied the lone goal of the contest with 15 minutes to play to lift Leavitt to a 1-0 win over Mt. View in field hockey action Friday.
Sadie Royer had the assist on Leclerc’s goal, while Sierra Santomango stopped three shots for the shutout.
The win was the second on the season for the defending Class B state champions in as many tries, and also the 300th win of coach Wanda Ward MacLean’s career.
“I don’t know that it has sunk in yet,” Ward-MacLean said Friday night. “I went to shake hands with the other coach, and when I turned around and came back, all the kids and my parents were wearing t-shirts that said ’30 years, 300 wins.’ That made me feel really good.”
Ward-MacLean said many of her current players’ parents also played for her at Leavitt. She is in her 30th season at the helm of the program.
Telstar 1, Dirigo 0
DIXFIELD — Becca Howard recorded the game’s only goal at 21:54 of the second half as Telstar clipped Dirigo 1-0 in field hockey action Friday afternoon.
The Cougars (1-0) outshot the Rebels (0-1) by a margin of 14-8.
Goalie Amanda Dolloff made six saves for Dirigo, while goalie Hali Barker prevented 11 shots to earn the win in net for Telstar.
Mt. Blue 2, Lawrence 1
FAIRFIELD — Mt. Blue’s Victoria Newbill scored a late second-half goal to lead the Cougars to a 2-1 win over Lawrence 2-1 in field hockey action Thursday. Mt. Blue’s first game back in Class A Field Hockey gave the team great expectations for the season down the road.
Newbill, a junior at Mt. Blue High School, kept pace for the Cougars (1-0) scoring the game winning goal, as well as assisting the first goal to Krista McLatchy. Rileigh Blanchet allowed one goal with eight saves to ensure the victory over the Bulldogs (0-1).
Hall-Dale 2, St. Dom’s 1
AUBURN — Shanay Gilbert netted the game-winning goal in double overtime as Hall-Dale snuck past St. Dom’s 2-1 in MVC field hockey play Friday. Amber Bell fired the first goal for the Bulldogs (1-0) in the second half to keep the momentum going into overtime.
Gilbert had more than enough support from teammate Molly French, who stopped 14 shots on the day. Kallie Greco notched the lone goal for the Saints (0-1), assisted by Emma Samson.
Spruce Mtn. 1, Lisbon 1
LISBON — A close game went down to the wire in Lisbon on Friday, with neither team coming out on top as Lisbon and Spruce Mountain battled to a 1-1 draw.
Randy Duguay’s goal to take the lead at 19:38 for the Phoenix was soon answered by Nichole Jones’ goal at 20:35 for the Greyhounds. Kasey Richards recorded five saves on eight shots for the Phoenix, while Stevie Charest also stopped five for the Greyhounds.
Boys
Maranacook 3, Leavitt 0
LEAVITT — Nick Lacasse scored the eventual game winning goal with 20 seconds remaining in the first half as Maranacook toppled Leavitt with a 3-0 victory in their season opener in KVAC boys’ action Friday afternoon.
The Hornets (0-1) were kept silent with steadfast defense. And, goalie Brad Worster earned the win with three saves for Maranacook.
The Black Bears (1-0) collected two goals in the second half. Kody Solmitz scored with 28 minutes left and an own goal put Maranacook up 3-0 for the final.
Goalie Ben Fullerton made 16 stops for Leavitt in the losing effort.
Pine Tree 4, Buckfield 3
BUCKFIELD — Andrew Goorhuis scored three goals and Kenny Sweetser added another as Pine Tree Academy held off Buckfield for a 4-3 victory in a boys’ soccer opener Friday.
The score was tied, 2-2, in the first half. The Bucks’ Jon Randolph also scored three goals, while Buckfield goalie Calvin Downey made 18 saves.
Falmouth 4, Gray-New Gloucester 0
GRAY — Luke Velas led the way, driving two goals into the back of the net, as Falmouth overwhelmed Gray-New Gloucester 4-0 on Friday. Falmouth outshot Gray-New Gloucester 12-5.
Brendan McNally stopped five of 12 shots for the Patriots (0-1).

Soccer
Hall-Dale 7, Telstar 0
FARMINGDALE — Maura Stottler netted a hat trick to catapult Hall-Dale to a 7-0 victory over Telstar in their season opening girls’ soccer matchup Friday.
The Bulldogs (1-0) put four points on the board in the first half. Clio Barr assisted on four of Hall-Dale’s seven tallies.
Goalie Tehya Johnson made 16 saves for the Rebels (0-1)..
Madison 7, Spruce Mountain 0
MADISON — Kayla Bess scored four goals as Madison blanked Spruce Mountain 7-0 in girls’ soccer action Friday.
Kirsten Wood tallied two goals and an assist, while Madeline Wood posted one goal and two assists for the Bulldogs (1-0).
Goalie Emily Keen made 13 saves for the Pheonix (0-1).
Leavitt 1, Maranacook 1
READFIELD — Leavitt and Maranacook played to a 1-1, double overtime tie Friday afternoon.
The Black Bears (0-0-1) scored first as Sage Hyland was able to redirect a loose ball in front of the net at 7:48 of the first half.
Kelsea Marschall converted a penalty kick nine minutes into the second half to tie the game at 1-1 for the Hornets (0-0-1).
Oxford Hills 2, Mt. Blue 1
SOUTH PARIS — Oxford Hills scored a pair of second-half goals to notch a 2-1 victory over Mt. Blue on Friday.
The Cougars (0-1) planted the first goal as Eryn Doiron converted a relay from Sierra Hoes at 27:49 of the first half. Katie Bowie and Ellex Loper buried a pair for the Vikings (1-0) in the second half to rally for the win. Coley Zufelt and Loper added assists.
Goalie Thia Bridges made six saves for Mt. Blue, while Sam Bickford shielded 12 shots for Oxford Hills in the winning effort.
St. Dom’s 3, Lisbon 0
AUBURN — Faith Grady shined Friday afternoon, firing three goals into the back of the net for a hat trick, as St. Dom’s shut out Lisbon 3-0 in the teams’ opening match.
Grady worked well with Emma Byrne, whose passing helped set the Saints up all afternoon. Kelly Pomerleau had a flawless afternoon in net, stopping all nine shots she faced. Ally Sult kept the Greyhounds in it during the second half, allowing zero goals on eight shots.
Dirigo 10, Winthrop 0
WINTHROP — Dirigo was firing on all cylinders Friday afternoon, registering 34 shots on goal as the Cougars shut down Winthrop 10-0 in MVC soccer action. Dirigo’s scoring was led by Melissa Velazquez , Lindsy Crutchfield and Lauren Henderson, with two each.
Brittany Greig, Kylie Palmer, Summer Keim and Sabrina Daoud paced the Cougars (1-0), adding a goal each in the victory. Mariah LeFleur stopped all four shots she faced from the Ramblers (0-1).
Monmouth 3, Oak Hill 0
WALES — Kylie Kemp fired two shots into the back of the net, giving Monmouth the upper hand as the Mustangs cruised past Oak Hill 3-0 on Friday.
Haley Fletcher played a big role in the Mustang offense, tallying a goal of her own while getting an assist. Mikayla Cameron recorded the shut out in net for the Mustangs (1-0), stopping all five shots on goal. Kelsey Collins had a .750 save percentage stopping 9 out of 12 shots she faced for the Raiders (0-1).
Buckfield 8, Pine Tree 0
BUCKFIELD — McKayla Darling and Bayley Caoutte led the way for the Bucks (1-0), driving two shots apiece into the back of the net as they topped Pine Tree 8-0.
Ashley Campbell, Abby Campbell, Naudia Wesley, and Bri Damon all tallied a goal on the day, as the Bucks outshot Pine Tree 21-5.
