Dance benefits adaptive sports

AUBURN — Hillside Family Riders Snowmobile Club will hold its annual Fund-Raising Dance for CMAS from 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Sept. 14, at Lost Valley Ski Lodge.

The evening includes a cash bar, free light refreshments and snacks, 50/50 cash drawing and a silent auction.

Central Maine Adaptive Sports provides students with disabilities the opportunity to participate in outdoor recreation activities and enhance their ability to enjoy independent skiing, with either one-on-one support, or no adaptive equipment, focusing on their abilities rather than their disabilities. Adaptive ski lessons are offered to people of all ages, with any disability. The lessons are offered entirely by volunteers dedicated to safety, fitness and fun.

Swingin’ Bears Square Dance Club

PARIS — The Swingin’ Bears Square Dance Club will hold a dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14. Walter Lougee will call for the mainstream/plus square dance and Carol Arsenault will cue for the round dancing. The dance will be held as usual in the cafeteria at the Oxford Hills Middle School, 100 Pine St.

Refreshments are always served at intermission with door prizes and a Pot O’ Gold drawing. Admission is $6 per person. Non -dancers are welcome at no charge

Burnt Meadow DAR to meet

LISBON FALLS — Burnt Meadow Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet at the home of Jayne Bickford at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14.

The chapter will catch up with members’ summer activities and become familiar with the year’s calendar. There will be a business meeting and “surprise” light refreshments.

Each year the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution celebrates Constitution Week from Sept. 17 through 23.

A program will be presented by Bickford, Constitution Week chairwoman, on the subject of the Constitution.

Any woman who believes she is related to a patriot and wishes to join the Daughters of the American Revolution may call Violet Gerber at 375-2698 to inquire about the process and get help in tracing ancestors.

Shakers: Simple Bookmaking class

NEW GLOUCESTER — A workshop on Simple Bookmaking with Gel Prints will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at Shaker Village, Route 26, 707 Shaker Road.

The Shakers have a long practice of writing, recording and book making. Join instructor Bonnie Faulkner of Yarmouth and learn basic gel printing and simple book binding techniques. Participants will create a beautiful accordion book filled with custom-design gel prints using fresh-picked Shaker herbs and flowers. Verses, mottos and poetry can be added.

Fund-raiser supper planned in Poland

POLAND — A casserole and bean fund-raiser supper will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at Excelsior Grange, Harris Hill.

Adults $7, children $3.50. Menu includes casseroles, beans, hot dogs, salads, rolls, butter, pies, desserts, coffee, tea and punch.

The meal is hosted by The Historical Society of Poland in an effort to raise funds to finish the Memorabilia Barn and also by The Busy Bees of Poland in an effort to raise funds to support their effort to help the Church Food Bank.

Sunday School starts Sept. 15

AUBURN — Sunday school classes at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 78 Pleasant St., will start on Sept. 15.

The Godly Play curriculum, which is based on stories of the Bible, will be used this year. Stories are acted out with imagination and not with stimulus. Rough props will be used but it is a different approach to teaching. The children are asked to be more creative in using their minds.

Craft time will follow the lessons and feast time. Laurie Frumiento will lead children in the lessons of the Bible while Mary Lou Rider will lead the craft time. Both women along with the help of parents will run feast time.

The festive Sunday School start will be on Sept. 29 (St. Michael’s Day) with games and the traditional Home Coming Picnic after the 10 a.m. service.

Vintage Fashion Show and Tea

AUBURN — The Woman’s Hospital Association will have a Vintage Fashion Show and Tea from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, at The Woman’s Literary Union, 19 Elm St.

Dottie Adams and Norma Salway will show off their collection of vintage clothing in a beautiful vintage setting. Dress in your best vintage outfit (optional) and join us for tea and a little fashion history.
