FARMINGTON — Police say two local teenagers have admitted to burglarizing a Court Street home last fall, police said.
The teens also admitted to taking items from more than 20 unlocked vehicles in a downtown municipal parking lot over an extended period of time, police said.
When police officer Michael Raymond responded to a complaint of two teens skateboarding around the Mallett School on Aug. 31, he spoke with the teens and thought a bicycle they had fit the description of one taken the week before, said Bonnie Pomeroy, department secretary, reading from Raymond’s report.
The teens admitted to taking the bicycle from the place listed in the complaint, she said. It has been returned to the owner.
During subsequent interviews, the teens, ages 16 and 17, from Farmington and New Sharon, respectively, admitted to breaking into a vacant home on Court Street last fall where some silverware and other items were taken.
Police and, apparently, the homeowner didn’t know about the burglary until the teens confessed. The homeowner confirmed the silverware and items were missing, she said. The silverware had not been returned.
The teens also admitted taking items from unlocked vehicles, according to the police report.
Some vehicles were left with window opens and they just reached in to take what they could, including a GPS, iPads, loose change and sunglasses, Pomeroy said. These car thefts have occurred from last fall to recently.
“The teens were pretty forthcoming,” she said.
Both teens were referred to Juvenile Corrections.
