BANGOR (AP) — The husband of a former Chelsea selectwoman convicted of extortion and tax-related charges has been found guilty of tax fraud too.

Marshall Swan, a contractor, was convicted Wednesday in federal court in Bangor of five counts of filing false income tax returns from 2006 to 2010.

The 56-year-old Swan was freed on bail pending sentencing.

Prosecutors say he underreported $650,000 income.

He blamed his estranged wife, saying she was in charge of business and family finances.

His lawyer told the Kennebec Journal (http://bit.ly/15Kl2Zo ) that he’s “deeply disappointed” with the verdict.

Swan’s wife, former Selectwoman Carole Swan, was convicted in two separate trials of tax fraud, workers compensation fraud, and extortion charges. She alleges her judgment was impaired by her husband’s abuse. He says he never abused her.
