AUGUSTA (AP) — Maine’s secretary of state is warning residents about possible online scams concerning driver’s license renewals.
Matthew Dunlap said in a statement this week that Maine’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles has received some complaints about websites claiming to provide new driver’s licenses or renewals, which are charging customers but not providing new licenses.
The secretary’s office said residents can get driver’s licenses only through the BMV or AAA New England locations. Residents must establish proof of residency and legal presence before getting a licesense.
The bureau is encouraging those who think they may be a victim of a scam to contact the BMV Investigations Unit at 624-9000, ext. 52144.
