RUMFORD — Maine author and bow-maker Richard Longbow will visit the Rumford Public Library from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, to read from his book, “Frozen in Time.”
According to a news release by the library, Longbow’s novel focuses on “a 5,300 year-old forensic mystery about a Neolithic human called the Iceman or better known as ‘Otzi.’”
Otzi was a mummified man found in 1991 and suspected to have died in the year 3330 B.C.
Longbow’s interest in anthropology and archeology led to 20 years of research into the history of Otzi, which resulted in his novel.
Longbow also acts as a master bow-maker, and is well versed in leathersmithing, flint knapping, woodcarving and knife-making.
Copies of Longbow’s book, along with his craft work, will be available for purchase at the reading.
Longbow, according to the press release, is a “direct descendant of two indigenous cultures” and has spent his lifetime pursuing “his interests in ancient arts, primitive technologies and the history of cultures who have contributed so much to the ascent of mankind.”
He has lectured at New England colleges and was the featured artist for Mountain Lake Public Television in upstate New York in 1995. He occasionally writes articles for the Primitive Archer Magazine.
