AUBURN — Barbara Hathaway, immediate past president of the Maine Extension Homemakers Council, attended the council’s annual fall meeting at the Fireside Inn & Suites.
Hathaway is also the MEHC Past Presidents Group president and conducted a breakfast meeting with past presidents, Pam Dupont, 1991, Hancock County, Marilyn Wheeler, 1995, Aroostook County, and Moneda Worster, 1997, Somerset County.
Welcome and updates revealed that 1999 Past President Lillian Douville, Washington County, has a new book in print, “Running Through Time,” which can be ordered online through Xlibris, Amazon, Barnes & Noble and local bookstores.
It was announced that the University of Maine Cooperative Extension named the Jackie Conant Scholarship Fund for Bryant Pond 4-H, which is a scholarship fund dedicated to MEHC Past President Jackie Conant, Oxford County, for dedication to the University of Maine Cooperative Extension.
The Maine Extension Homemakers, in partnership with the Maine 4-H Foundation, has initiated the scholarship fund endowed in Jackie’s name to help young people attend Bryant Pond 4-H Camp and Learning Center.
Conant served on the center board, MEHC board and the Maine 4-H Foundation board of directors. The MEHC past presidents voted to make a statement of their support of the scholarship fund.
Past Presidents Wheeler and Worster presented first timers a gift bag as a welcome and encouragement to attend again and become a member.
During the MEHC business meeting, Hathaway gave the results of the nomination committee as Alberta Philpot, Somerset County, for treasurer and Barbara Lord, Somerset, as secretary. The membership voted in favor of each position.
Hathaway and Dupont performed the installation ceremony with the lighting of the candles and presentation of the yellow rose of friendship to each of the voted officers.
Jean Smith, Knox/Lincoln Extension Homemakers, was recognized with the presentation of a yellow rose for her dedication and service to Extension Homemakers. Extension Adviser for the Past Presidents Lisa Fishman, Aroostook County, was in attendance.
