Heywood Club hosts MOFGA rep
NORWAY — Cheryl Wixson, organic marketing consultant for the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association, will speak to the Heywood Club at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at the home of Rowena Palmer, 286 Round the Pond Road.
Wixson’s remarks, “Is it Food? Gums, additives, genetically modified organisms and more,” will address the addition of chemicals, gums, stabilizers and additives on our food, and the effects they have upon the health of our citizens, the community and the environment.
A long-time local foods advocate and educator, Wixson is a celebrity chef, food columnist and agricultural engineer. She works with schools, institutions, communities and farmers to help advance Maine agriculture and bring more Maine food to Maine plates.
The Heywood Club is Norway’s oldest club, and boasts multiple generations of family members. Founded in 1903, the organization lends a helping hand to families in times of trouble and bereavement. Their mission, “neighbors helping neighbors,” plays a vital role in the Crocket Ridge neighborhood.
Craft, social group changes venue
OTISFIELD — For nearly two years a group of women has been meeting to sew, knit, paint or just enjoy each other’s company. Always the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, they have met at the Otisfield Community Hall on Route 121 during the warm months, courtesy of the Town of Otisfield.
Starting Wednesday, Nov. 13, the group will meet at the East Otisfield Free Baptist Church on the Rayville Road and continue to meet there until spring.
Though the group usually meets 9:30 to noon, from Nov. 13 until Dec. 10 they will extend their stay by having lunch together and working on projects until 2 p.m. All are welcome and there is no charge.
Bring your own project or come and see what others are working on and have a cup of tea.
This group formed out of the larger Community Lunch group and is an outreach activity of the Otisfield Social Outreach Committee. For more information, contact Elaine Doble-Verrill at 539-4846 or [email protected].
