OXFORD — Voters overwhelmingly elected Peter Laverdiere as their new selectman at Tuesday’s polls.
Laverdiere won 295 votes, easily winning the three-way race over opponents Peter Cushman, who gathered 112 votes, and William Sanborn, who took 95.
Reached on Tuesday evening, Laverdiere, 72, thanked all of the people who had helped in his campaign and said he was looking forward to working into his new seat on the board.
A longtime volunteer in Oxford town government and a member of the Appeals Board and Budget Committee, Laverdiere is a retired sales manager for Prudential Financial. In an interview in September, he said, “getting out of the way and letting entrepreneurs create jobs” was important to helping the town move forward.
Laverdiere will finish off a two-year term on the board left by Dennis Sanborn, who died in May. His election brings the board back up to its full five members for the first time in nearly six months.
Laverdiere is scheduled to be sworn in at the Board of Selectman meeting on Thursday, Nov. 7.
