LIVERMORE FALLS — Neighbors woke a woman sleeping on the second floor of a house at 6 Sturtevant Place on Wednesday morning and helped her get out of the burning building, fire Chief Lt. Tim “T.D.” Hardy said.
State fire investigator Chris Standford determined the cause was an an electrical fire that started in a wall, he said.
About 35 firefighters from Livermore Falls, Livermore, Jay, Wilton, East Dixfield and Farmington responded to the 10:14 a.m. fire.
Beth and Keith Miller rent the house from Steve Martin of Aroostook County, Hardy said. The couple and Martin both have insurance.
Beth Miller was sleeping upstairs when the fire started on the second floor. A neighbor saw smoke and reported the fire. A neighbor also knocked on the door to wake her up and helped her out, he said.
“No one was injured,” Hardy said. Pet birds were removed safely, and a cat is believed to have been outside.
A NorthStar EMS ambulance crew checked Miller at the scene.
There is fire damage to the second floor, and smoke and water damage to the first floor, he said.
The house is not livable.
The American Red Cross is helping the couple, he said. He did not know where they would be staying.
