CAMDEN — A former basketball coach was arrested on Thursday on 16 gross sexual assault charges, according to police.

Travis Tatro, 30, of Camden, who coached girls basketball at Islesboro High School before his dismissal in August, was taken into custody without incident at his home by state police, Department of Safety Spokesman Stephen McCausland said.

Tatro was indicted Thursday by the Waldo County Grand Jury and was expected to appear before a judge on Friday, McCausland said.

State police began investigating the case of an assault on two teenage girls earlier this month, McCausland said.

After he was dismissed from the Islesboro job, Tatro moved to Camden and had been coaching basketball privately in Knox County, McCausland said.

Tatro is being held at the Waldo County Jail on $10,000 bail. In addition to the gross sexual assault charges, he was also indicted on single counts of unlawful sexual contact and sexual exploitation of a minor.
