TURNER — Selectmen on Monday accepted two offers for tax-acquired properties.

Richard Keach bid $13,746 for property at 185 Little Wilson Pond Road and $8,500 for land on Kennebec Trail road.

Another property at 8 Decoster Drive, which required at minimum bid of $4,082.90, got no bids. It will be readvertised.

Public Works Director Jack Moultrie said road salt is $8 per ton less this year than last. He said the town has enough salt from last year so that he has not placed a new order.

The town has 4,000 yards of screened sand stockpiled, he said, and equipment is ready for the winter and crews have reviewed new plow routes and town procedures.

Moultrie will call a Road Committee meeting in December to discuss equipment replacement and funding, the status of several roads, the Tripp’s Bridge project and 2014 projects.

The Public Works Department is negotiating with local contractors to remove a tree from the Nezinscot River Dam.

Selectman Dennis Richardson said he was pleased with the quality of the summer’s roadwork. Moultrie said it was the result of good paving mix well placed.

Town Manager Scott LaFlamme said the town has received a report on the multi-year wind power feasibility study conducted by Maine Rural Partners and Kennebec Valley Community College. The study was to determine if a wind turbine could generate enough power to operate a dairy operation at Brigeen Farms.

None of the selectmen objected to installing wind power at the farm, but Selectman Kurt Youland reminded LaFlamme that any installation must meet the town’s wind power ordinance.

LaFlamme said he has contacted several professionals about the beaver problem on Pleasant Pond. Maine Animal Damage Control of Lewiston did a preliminary search and is willing to remove the beavers at no cost. Because most of the lodges are on private property, landowner cooperation will be needed.

LaFlamme will be the liaison between the property owners and the wildlife professionals.
