WILTON — A couple of residents and two firefighters escaped injury when the second of two sections of a tall pine tree fell on a mobile home in Arkay Trailer Park during a fierce windstorm Sunday night.
The tall pine behind the trailer had two main sections, Wayne Knowles Jr. said Monday as he and Jim Brown cleaned up debris for park owner Erald Farmer. One section fell on the trailer around 8:30 p.m. and the second dropped while firefighters were helping the occupants get some of their belongings.
The back bedroom was crushed, and the ceiling in the bathroom of the 1974 trailer dropped.
Fire Chief Sonny Dunham and another firefighter were helping occupants get belongings when the second section fell on the home, Assistant Chief Kyle Ellis of the Wilton Fire Department said.
The home is owned by Linda Littlefield and is uninsured, Ellis said. Three adults were living in it, but Ellis was unsure about children. The American Red Cross is providing housing for a few nights.
A couple miles west on Main Street next to the Wilton Methodist Church, a tree fell across the roof of a home, Ellis said.
Along with calls for downed trees and electrical lines, firefighters also responded to a utility shed crushed by a tree on Preston Street, Ellis said.
