LIVERMORE — Police said a Byron man was injured Thursday morning on Route 4 when he fell asleep and his car crossed into the oncoming lane, hit a car and a utility pole.

Christopher Edmonds, 34, of Byron, was heading north near Brettuns Variety at 7:19 a.m., Maine State Police Trooper Tyler Stevenson said. His 1993 Honda Civic struck a 2002 Subaru driven by Heather Cyr, 24, of Farmington, he said. She was not injured, he said.

“This was a close call and just goes to show the danger of driving fatigued,” Stevenson said.

Edmonds received minor injuries and was taken by a NorthStar EMS ambulance to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Stevenson said.

Both vehicles were demolished, he said.

Livermore firefighters assisted at the scene. The road was down to one lane for a time.
