LIVERMORE — The Highway Department will be able to fuel up regardless of the time of night due to a new checking account.

The Board of Selectpersons approved opening a checking account and having a debit card tied to it, Administrative Assistant Kurt Schaub said. It will have a target balance of $2,500, he said.

Highway foreman Roger Ferland will be in charge of the card.

Currently, if the highway crew is out all night during a storm, there is no way to pay for fuel, Schaub said.

The town has an account at Breton’s Variety on Route 4, but it is not open 24 hours a day, he said. The card will allow the crew to use the diesel pumps at the store, he said.

A recorded vote of the board was needed to open the account.
