DURHAM — Both vehicles were demolished in a two-car crash on Route 136 early Saturday afternoon.
Deputy Jon Guay of the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department identified the drivers as Diane Chasse, 62, of Auburn and Carie Washburn, 39, of Durham.
According to Guay, Chasse was driving north on Route 136 in a line of traffic and was slowing down for a car making a left turn onto Davis Road when her brakes failed. She swerved into the southbound lane and collided with Washburn’s oncoming vehicle.
Both drivers complained of pain, as did Washburn’s two daughters, ages 14 and 16, all of whom were taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland by Durham Fire and Rescue.
Both Chasse’s 2002 Ford Taurus and Washburn’s 2007 Dodge Caliber were towed from the scene of the 1:08 p.m. crash.
