BOOTHBAY — Junior Emily Keene drained a team-high 15 points for Spruce Mountain as Phoenix ran past Boothbay 59-33 in a girls’ MVC basketball matchup.

Samantha Richards was a force on the boards, grabbing nine of them to go along with eight points.

Vanesa Barnes created an ample amount of turnovers on defense with seven steals to go with her 10 points for the Phoenix (5-0).

York 62, Gray-New Gloucester 41

YORK — Chloe Smedley led the way for York, on an offensively spread night, with 12 points on the evening as York stepped past Gray-New Gloucester 62-41 in a girls’ basketball matchup.

Shannon Todd recorded 10 points for the Wildcats (2-2), while Paige McElwain scored nine. Alicia Dumont scored a team-high 12 points for the Patriots, as they drop to 2-2 on the season.

Hall-Dale 39, Mountain Valley 33

RUMFORD — Nicole Pelletier took advantage of the free opportunities she got, scoring 5 buckets from the line to lead Hall-Dale with 10 points as the Bulldogs edged Mountain Valley 39-33 in MVC girls’ basketball Wednesday night.

Brooke Berberich added in eight points for the Bulldogs (2-3), while Eva Sheperd and Allison Crockett netted six a piece. Shannon Laubauskas tied Pelletier’s game high with 10 points of her own for the Mountain Valley Falcons (2-2).

Telstar 38, Winthrop 17

WINTHROP — Telstar earned its first victory in at least five seasons Wednesday, posting a 38-17 victory over Winthrop in a MVC girls’ matchup.

Tori Ryerson led the Rebels (1-4) with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Becca Howard chipped in with three points and 13 rebounds.

The winless Ramblers (0-4) were paced by Shie Smith with seven points, while Corinna Colton added five.

Boys’ basketball

Winthrop 60, Telstar 30

WINTHROP — After jumping out to a 23-5 advantage in the first frame, Winthrop hit cruise control and pulled away to post a 60-30 romp over Telstar in MVC boys’ basketball action Wednesday.

Jacvon Hickey led the Ramblers (3-2) with 14 points, while Ben Allen chipped in with nine and Dakota Carter added eight. Carter also pulled down eight rebounds in a solid effort.

The Rebels (1-4) were paced by Bronson Dean and Mike Daugherty with nine points apiece.

Falmouth 90, Poland 52

FALMOUTH — Falmouth sprinted out to a 32-13 lead in the first frame Wednesday and rolled mercilessly on to post a 90-52 rout over Poland in a WMC boys’ basketball tilt Wednesday.

Jack Simonds led the undefeated Yachtsmen (4-0) with 23 points, while Thomas Coyne chipped in with 18.

Justin Rogers also contributed with 12 points while Nick Burton added 11 in a well-balanced attack.

The Knights (1-3) were paced by Derek Michaud with a solid 14-point effort, while CJ Martin chipped in with nine.

Oxford Hills 56, Lawrence 36

FAIRFIELD — After building a 32-22 advantage in the first half, Oxford Hills kept applying the pressure and raced away to post a 56-36 win over Lawrence in another mid-week boys’ basketball tilt Wednesday.

Andrew Fleming led the Vikings (1-2) with 16 points, while Matt Beauchesne chipped in with 14 and Tyus Ripley added 10.

The Bulldogs (2-1) were paced by Brad King with a solid 14-point effort, the only player in double figures.

Winslow 83, Leavitt 52

TURNER — The Winslow boys’ basketball team attacked from behind the arc on Wednesday, draining nine 3-pointers on the night as Black Raiders routed Leavitt 83-52 in some boys’ basketball action.

Nason Lanthier led the way with 19 points for the Black Raiders (3-2). Justin Martin and Trevor Lovely followed closely behind with 18 and 17 points, respectively.

The trio combined for six of the nine 3-pointers for Winslow.

Eli Calder scored a team-high 15 points for the Leavitt Hornets, who drop to 0-5 on the season.

Boys’ hockey

Gray-NG/Poland 5, Windham 1

WINDHAM — Freshman Deryk Belanger found the back of the net twice for his first two varsity scores of the year, as Gray-New Gloucester skated past Windham 5-1 in boys’ hockey action.

Matt Futch went right along with Belanger, scoring his first varsity goal of the season 12 minutes into the first period. David Despins tallied as well in the third period for Gray-NG (2-2).

Sophomore Tyler Johnson scored the lone goal for the Eagles (1-3) with 14:15 remaining in the second period of play.
