FARMINGTON — A local man was arrested Wednesday evening after he threatened another man with a knife, police say.

Ronald Mello, 52, of Farmington was charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, violation of condition of release and assault with a dangerous weapon, Bonnie Pomeroy, Farmington Police Department secretary, said.

Police were called to a home on the Farmington Falls Road about 5 p.m. The caller reported being threatened by Mello earlier in the day, Pomeroy read from the police report. The caller also said Mello was intoxicated and he wanted Mello to leave his home.

Farmington police and officers from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department found Mello heavily intoxicated, in violation of a previous release condition.

The caller told police Mello was staying with him. After Mello threatened him with a knife, Mello fell asleep but later woke up agitated, she said. The caller wanted him to leave. When Mello wouldn’t go, he called 911.

A charge of reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon can be made for just brandishing the knife threateningly, she said. The assault with a dangerous weapon charge stems from a physical struggle between the two. No one was injured during the struggle, she added.

A NorthStar ambulance  responded, because Mello said he was having a heart issue. Medics determined he was fine and police arrested him, she said.

Farmington police Sgt. Eddie Hastings and Officer Michael Lyman, along with Franklin County Lt. David St. Laurent and other officers, responded to the call, she said.
