BOOTHBAY HARBOR — John Hepburn scored 34 points Thursday night, and Boothbay pulled away in the second overtime for a 92-87 MVC boys’ basketball win over Spruce Mountain.
Deonte Ring led the Phoenix (4-1) with 23 points, including six in the second OT stanza to keep Spruce Mountain in contention. Andrew Darling chipped in 20 points, while Scottie Hall added 18.
Julian Aponte amassed 15 points and Evan Hepburn added 12 for the Seahawks (3-1). John Hepburn hauled down a team-high 11 rebounds.
Greely 67, Poland 44
POLAND — After jumping out to a 17-6 advantage in the first frame, Greely poured on the steam and pulled away to record a 67-44 win over Poland on Thursday night
Mike McDevitt led undefeated Greely (5-0) with 22 points, while Bailey Trane chipped in with 17.
The Knights (1-4) were led by Alan Young with an 11-point effort, while Tyler Michaud added 10.
Dirigo 87, Mt. Abram 36
DIXFIELD — Dirigo easily overpowered Mt. Abram Thursday, building a 15-point lead in the first frame and cruising home to a 87-36 rout in an MVC boys’ basketball tilt.
Riley Robinson led the Cougars (4-0) with 25 points, while Kaine Hutchins and Dylan Kidder each added 17.
The Roadrunners (1-3) were paced by Amos Withee with a solid 12-point effort, while Quinton Hanna added seven.
Monmouth 52, Lisbon 37
LISBON — Monmouth used a 15-6 second-quarter run to take control and hustled on to post a 52-37 victory over Lisbon in MVC boys’ basketball action Thursday.
Kasey Smith led the Mustangs (3-2) with a 12-point performance, while Isiah Calder chipped in with 11. Monmouth held a 27-18 lead at the half and kept up the offensive pressure until the buzzer.
Messalonskee 63, Edward Little 52
AUBURN — Jordan Holmes poured 22 points into the net Thursday to lead Messalonskee to a 63-52 win over Edward Little in KVAC action.
Ryan Erskine chipped in for the Eagles (3-1) with 11 points in what was primarily a two-man effort.
The Red Eddies (1-3) were paced by Lew Jensen and Salad Sheikh with 12 points apiece, while Andrew Middleton added 10.
Gray-New Gloucester 74, Wells 57
WELLS — Andreas Kariotis sparked a 20-12 run in the third quarter that allowed Gray-New Gloucester to pull away for a 74-57 win over Wells boys’ basketball action Thursday.
Kariotis finished with 19 points for the Patriots (1-4), including six in that key third frame. Tyler St. Pierre chipped in with 12 points, while David Thalante and Sam Johnson each added 11.
Wells was paced by Jake Moody with a game-high 30 points, while Chris Carney chipped in with 12.
Andrew Fleming chipped in with 14 points for Oxford Hills. Matt Beauchesne dropped a 3-pointer and nailed seven free throws for the Vikings, who improve to 2-2 on the season.
Blake Gordon had 15 points for the Brunswick Dragons who fall to 3-2 on the season.
Wiscasset 68, St. Dom’s 56
AUBURN — Travis Padilla scored 26 points and Dale Peaslee added 22 as Wiscasset shook off St. Dom’s 68-56 in a boys’ basketball game Thursday.
Wiscasset held a 28-26 lead at the half before opening up on the Saints with 23 points.
The Saints faced a tough Wiscasset defense that created multiple turnovers. For the Saints, Madison Jalbert scored 16 points.
Girls’ basketball
Mt. Blue 53, Mt. Ararat 24
FARMINGTON — Mt. Blue got its first win of the season with a 53-24 victory over Mt. Ararat Thursday in KVAC girls’ basketball.
The Cougars were led by Caitlin Kane with 13 points while Miranda Nicely added 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Mt. Ararat (0-4) got seven from Mikki Bradstreet.
The Cougars opened the game with a 14-7 lead in the first quarter. Mt. Blue then broke the game open with a 17-2 second quarter. The Eagles were held to just a single point in the third as the Cougars had the lead up to 51-10 after three.
Forest Hills 63, Buckfield 26
BUCKFIELD — Forest Hills quickly built an 11-point advantage in the first frame and raced away to post a 63-26 win over Buckfield in EWC girls’ basketball action Thursday.
Kori Coro and Anna Carrier led the undefeated Tigers (7-0) with 16 points apiece in what was essentially a two-player attack.
Naudia Wesley led the Bucks (0-5) with 10 points, while Brianna Damon chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds.
Edward Little 63, Messalonskee 27
OAKLAND — Edward Little went on a 24-10 run in the second quarter and raced away to a 63-27 romp over Messalonskee in KVAC girls’ basketball action Thursday.
Kory Norcross led the Red Eddies (4-0) with 21 points, while Emily Jacques chipped in with 14.
The Eagles (3-1) were paced by Mikayla Turner with an 11-point effort.
St. Dom’s 53, Wiscasset 25
AUBURN — Kelly Pomerleau led a trio of players in double figures as St. Dom’s overpowered Wiscasset 53-25 in a girls’ basketball game Thursday.
Pomerleau led the Saints (4-1) with 18 points, while Chloe Dwinell chipped in with 13 and Faith Grady added 11.
The Wolverines (0-5) were paced by Briana Goud with a solid 10-point effort.
Storey finished with 18 points to lead the Rangers (4-1), while Jordynne Copp chipped in with 14 points and Moira Train added 12.
The Knights (4-1) were paced by Michaella Arsenault with a game-high 26 points, while Emily Bolduc chipped in with 14.
