WALES — After building a commanding 34-25 lead in the first half, Oak Hill hit high gear and raced away to post a 62-49 win over Boothbay in a KVAC girls’ baskketball tilt Thursday.
Sadie Goulet led the Raiders (9-3) to their sixth straight victory with 12 points, while Danielle Samson and Bri Mulherin each added 10.
The Seahawks (5-7) were paced by Morgan Crocker with a game-high 22 points, while Sarah Durgin chipped in with 15.
Spruce Mountain 48, Wiscasset 17
WISCASSET — By scoring more points in the opening frame than its opponents did the entire game, Spruce Mountain mde it an easy cruise home to secure a 48-17 win over Wiscasset on Thursday.
Samantha Richards led the unbeaten Phoenix (10-0) with 11 points, while Emily Keene and Ladesta Tracy each added nine.
The struggling Wolverines (2-10) were led by Kayla Gordon with an eight-point effort.
Men’s basketball
Vermont 83, Maine 45
BANGOR — Garet Beal led Maine with nine points but Vermont’s stingy defense held the Black Bears in check as the Catamounts defeated the Black Bears 83-46 at the Cross Insurance Center on Thursday night.
With the loss Maine drops to 3-13 overall and 1-3 in America East play while Vermont improved to 9-8 ovrall and 3-0 in conference.
The Catamounts shot 57 percent form the field and out rebounded the Black Bears 38-20.
Ethan O’Day was one of three Vermont players to tally double-digit point totals as all but one player who entered the game scored points.
Meanwhile the Black Bears were held without a double-figure goal scorer as Beal lead with ine while both Dimitry Akanda-Coronel and Xavier Pollard tallied seven.
