WILTON — Police continue their investigation of a stabbing Monday night on the McCrillis Corner Road.

A 33-year-old Readfield woman told police she was attacked after her 2006 Suzuki broke down near the Chesterville town line. A man driving a white Chevrolet pickup stopped to assist her and then assaulted her, Maine State Police Sgt. Matt Casavant said Tuesday.

“We’re obviously taking it seriously but we have some unanswered questions,” Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Thursday. “Those could be cleared up if any other motorists saw both vehicles.”

During a struggle, the woman suffered stab wounds to her arm. She was able to restart her car and drive 3 miles to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington where she was treated and released.

Her attacker left the scene.

Police were told the Suzuki has a history of stopping and then restarting after sitting idle for a time, McCausland said.

“It’s not the first time it happened,” he said.

McCausland could not say how long the woman was stranded before the man stopped. He was described as 5 feet, 10 inches tall, with a slender build, a goatee and a mad bomber hat.

State police are asking anyone who was in the area of McCrillis Corner Road and Route 133  between 7 and 9:15 p.m. Monday to call them in Augusta at 624-7076 or 1-800-452-4664, or Wilton police at 645-3876.

“The bottom line is we continue to investigate it seriously but assistance from any other motorists would be helpful,” McCausland said.
