PARIS — A Peru man involved in an early-morning standoff with police was charged with two misdemeanor offenses during an appearance in South Paris court Monday.

Corey Taylor, 40, is charged with criminal threatening and terrorizing, class D crimes. Both carry a sentence of 364 days incarceration and a $2,000 fine upon conviction.

Taylor was arrested early Sunday morning after a seven-hour standoff at his home off Route 108 with officers from the Maine State Police tactical team, Oxford County Sheriff’s Office and Dixfield and Rumford police departments.

According to an arrest affidavit from state police Trooper Jason Wing, two members of Taylor’s family reported receiving a number of threatening voice and text messages from Taylor on Saturday evening.

In the messages, left on a cellphone and at a business owned by one of his relatives, Taylor allegedly threatened to kill one of his older brothers and himself and warned people not come to his home.

“If I hear someone knock on my door the trigger will be pulled even cops,” he said in one message, according to Wing’s report.

Wing wrote that one of Taylor’s relatives reported Taylor drinks heavily and has made threats of hurting himself in the past.

A section of Route 108 was closed and neighbors were asked to temporarily leave their homes while Wing and other officers created a perimeter around the residence and Wing attempted to contact Taylor on his cellphone.

According to his affidavit, Wing attempted to contact Taylor by phone as many as 15 times before moving his cruiser closer to the house and using the PA system and siren.

Taylor was eventually arrested by the state police Tactical Team after an arrest warrant and a search warrant were issued. He was the only person in the home at the time of the arrest.

According to Wing, multiple firearms were found in the house, including a unloaded shotgun and pistol in the living room, and two rifles, one of them loaded, in one of the bedrooms. They also found a potato launcher and ammunition in the basement.

In court Monday, Judge Paul Cote gave Taylor three bail options: $5,000 cash, $20,000 surety or a contract for supervised release.

According to the Oxford County Jail, Taylor remained behind bars Monday night.
