Applications for the $1,000 scholarship awarded biennially by Maine Media Women must be postmarked no later than Monday, March 31.
Applicants must be high school seniors and Maine residents who plan to pursue higher education leading to careers in communications. The winner will be announced at the end of April.
The winner and her parents or guardians will be invited to attend the MMW annual meeting when the formal announcement is made. The cash award is made at the end of the winner’s freshman year, upon receipt by the scholarship committee of her transcript and proof of registration for the sophomore year.
Seniors who wish to apply need to send an original and two copies of:
* A letter of application containing complete contact information;
* School currently attending;
* Name of college or university she will be attending;
* Reasons for wishing to be considered for the MMW scholarship;
* Reasons for wanting to go into a specific communications field;
* High school honors and activities, grade records and ranking;
* Any work or volunteer experience that will help the committee get to know the applicant and evaluate her application;
* Two letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors, employers, volunteer supervisors, religious leaders and/or other adults who are not relatives.
