This week the Old Town High School Robotics Team participates in its inaugural US-FIRST competition, a regional event hosted by Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). The team has prepared extensively since the challenge, “Aerial Assist”, was announcedJanuary 4th. In a six-week build period, the students (with mentor assistance) transformed an assortment of parts into a robot that can move rapidly, pick up, and launch a large exercise ball into a target 7 feet off the ground. The robot operates in both an autonomous and human-guided mode.The WPI event is streamed on the internet; to see the OTHS team visit one of the two websites below and look for Team 5122 in bright pink t-shirts. The draft schedule includes qualifying matches on Thursday from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.m and Friday from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.. Following the qualifying matches, the final rounds run Friday from 2-4:30 p.m. with awards following.
