LIVERMORE FALLS — A worker at PalletOne Inc. on Park Street suffered minor injuries Friday when part of the roof collapsed under the weight of snow and ice, police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said.
With the 14 inches of snow that fell Wednesday night into Friday, and ice build-up on the roof, it collapsed, Donnie Isaacson, vice president of PalletOne, said. It was on a back section about 20 to 30 feet long, he said.
The overnight crew was assembling pallets in the building, which was once a shoe shop and warehouse now owned by Isaacson’s Lumber Co. The injured worker was taken to the hospital as a precaution and is fine, Isaacson said.
PalletOne Inc. does business as Isaacson’s Lumber Co.
Police received the report at 1:15 a.m., Steward Jr. said.
Fire Chief Tim “TD” Hardy said workers had shut off the sprinkler system, which had a broken pipe, and the electrical power to the building.
“We basically made sure the utilities were off,” he said.
Once the plant manager arrived, the building was turned over to him.
The manufacturing building was closed Friday. A crew from Sheridan Corp. was rebuilding the roof and it is expected to reopen on Monday morning, Isaacson said.
The company makes 10,000 pallets a day at the Livermore Falls location and ships them to customers, he said.
