OXFORD — Firefighters from Oxford and Paris quickly doused a fire started by ash from a pellet stove at 304 King St. on Thursday afternoon.
According to Lt. Carl Van Nest of the Oxford Fire Department, crews were called to the scene at approximately 9:30 a.m. for a report of a structure fire.
The homeowner reportedly dumped ash from their pellet stove too close to the back side of a large barn near their house, starting a small fire that spread up the side of the door and into the interior, Van Nest said.
Crews were able to quickly douse the fire and tore away some of the planking to ensure it did not rekindle.
No injuries were reported.
Van Nest said owners of pellet and wood stoves should make sure to dispose of ashes far away from any combustible material and should make sure the ashes are wet down to prevent fires.
