SUMNER — Selectmen are contemplating a $250,000 bond issue to fund repairs on two town-owned bridges.
The Board of Selectmen discussed the issue during its March 25 meeting. A proposed bond will need to go to voters at town meeting in August for approval.
According to Town Clerk Susan Runes, the town is currently debt-free. The cost of repairs to the Twin Bridge on Tuell Hill Road is estimated at $150,000 and the price of replacing a culvert on Redding Road is estimated at $100,000, Runes said.
Selectman Walter Litchfield, who also serves on the town’s Road Committee, said cost estimates drawn up by the committee were the same as Runes’, although there is some “wiggle room” in the figures.
Interest payment on a 10-year bond would come to almost $28,000, Runes said.
