WEST PARIS — The town probably will need to tear down a storage building on Kingsbury Street that has become dangerous, Town Manager John White advised selectmen Thursday.
The small building is used to store road salt, White said. It is one of two town buildings at the western end of Kingsbury Street.
Selectmen Wade Rainey, Randall Jones and Dennis Henderson suggested sealing the building until a decision on its future is made.
An engineer hired by the town to evaluate the building expressed serious concerns about the integrity of one of its walls, White told selectmen.
“He said, if you hit that with a loader once, the whole thing is going to come down,” White said.
In the absence of more winter weather, town employees should not need to access the building, he said.
The town is expected to mark off the building to prevent people from going inside.
The adjacent larger building, used to store equipment for the town’s annual Old Home Days celebration, might be saved if the town repairs the roof, White said.
“If we can determine the structure is OK, we probably ought to do a little work on it, pretty it up a little bit,” White said.
