LEWISTON — Scholastic children’s author Ben Mikaelsen will talk about the stories behind his stories, including raising a 750-pound black bear, 3:30 p.m. at Lewiston Middle School cafeteria. The public is welcome.
AUBURN — City Council budget workshop, scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. in Auburn Hall. Topics include a review of Emergency Medical Services response and budget discussions regarding capital improvements and budget policies and schedules.
LEWISTON — School Committee meeting, 6:45 p.m., Dingley Building. Agenda: Adopting a 2014-15 school budget, which will go to City Council, then public referendum.
TUESDAY
LEWISTON — City Council budget workshop and regular meeting. Workshop is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. to review budgets for general government, inspections and recreation. The regular meeting begins at 7 p.m. and topics include a public hearing on the budget and joint development agreement for the Pierce Place housing development.
WEDNESDAY
LEWISTON — Book discussion of “What is the What” by Dave Eggers, 6:30 p.m. at Lewiston Public Library. The novel is about the life of Valentino Achak Deng, a refugee from Sudanese civil war of the 1980s and ’90s. It is presented by Lewiston Public Library, Machiah Center and Maine Humanities Council. AUBURN — School Committee budget workshop at 5:30, regular meeting at 7 p.m., Council Chambers, Auburn Hall. Public input welcome. Committee scheduled to vote on 2014-15 budget April 30.

AUBURN — Youth ministry students from St. Dominic Academy will present Good Friday Living Stations of the Cross, 11 a.m., St. Dominic Academy.
SATURDAY
AUBURN — “Fairy Godmother Prom Gown Giveaway,” 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Foss Mansion, 19 Elm St. Gowns donated to the Woman’s Literary Union of Androscoggin County’s event to help girls afford to go to their high school proms.
LEWISTON — 15th annual Easter egg hunt, noon to 2 p.m., for preschoolers through fifth-graders, Lewiston Memorial Armory, 65 Central Ave. Sponsored by the Lewiston Recreation Department. Parents must accompany children. Games, prizes, face-painting, music and more.
