NORWAY — Annual town meeting voters could be asked to use the Denison Cole Trust Fund to upgrade the town website, which some say is user-unfriendly.
“Ours certainly is not (user-friendly.) It’s difficult to maintain,” Selectman Bruce Cook said. “We have to get into this century.”
The plan is to use the approximately $5,000 in the Denison Cole fund.
Although Cook hoped the money could be used without town meeting approval to expedite the changes in time for tourist season, Town Manager David Holt said the undesignated fund requires a town meeting vote.
It has been referred to as a trust fund, but Holt said he doesn’t believe it was set up as a traditional trust fund, simply as a donation that could be used in any way that benefits the residents of Norway.
He has recommended the request be put on the annual town meeting warrant in June.
Cook said the website was set up about 10 years ago.
“There’s so much more you can do with the modern technology,” he said.
“We just need something that represents our town better. We have a lot more to offer than what that website shows,” Town Clerk Shirley Boyce said.
