NORWAY — The former Trolley House restaurant is expected to reopen as the Passengers Rail around May 1.
Selectmen approved a liquor and entertainment license for the new establishment Thursday.
Tom Turner and Lisa Keisman, both of Paris, owners of the pub and casual dining spot on Main Street, said the business will remain similar to the Trolley House. The pair said they will continue to operate it as a dining area and bar.
The Trolley House shut its doors in January after less than eight months in business. The owner cited declining business as the reason.
Keisman said Monday she and Turner are not worried.
“The communitiy’s excited,” she said.
The building has a bar in the front and a traditional dining seating for 40 toward the back. The new owners said there will be more a separation of the two areas to curb noise.
The building was the garage for trolleys that connected Norway and Paris from 1895-1918. A wall of pictures shows more of its history for patrons.
The idea to change the name from the Trolley House was done to give the business a fresh start while retaining the historical value of the building, Turner told the board.
The pair said they hope to have low-key entertainment, such as an acoustical guitarist, similar to Tucker’s Pub on Main Street.
