NORWAY — Christ Episcopal Church recently held its annual meeting after having a turkey dinner cooked and served by the Hospitality Committee members.

A printed report on the activities of last year was augmented by conversation and questions.

A budget was approved.

Christ Church at that time did not have a permanent rector, although the search was coming to a conclusion.

Spiritual matters were handled by the Transition Priest in Charge, the Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Miller, while all other business was executed by the lay leadership.

Retiring Senior Warden Carlyn Watts and Junior Warden Lynn Orsini got a big vote of thanks and appreciation for the hard work and encouragement they provided for several years.

Christ Episcopal Church is not a village church or a community church. It draws its membership from a large area in Oxford County because of the particular type of worship and liturgy it practices. Diocesan Bishop Stephen Lane calls it a destination church. However, its ministry and outreach begins in Norway, such as Thanksgiving dinner, ice cream social, blessing of the animals jointly run with St. Catherine’s, Red Cross blood drive and food pantry in the church’s undercroft, to mention some.

The new Vestry of Christ Church is as follows: Russell Tornrose, senior warden, Bethel; Doug Wall, junior warden, Harrison; Peter Hammond, clerk, Norway; Marcia Pottle, treasurer, Oxford; Tom Knight, assistant treasurer, Norway; members of the Vestry, Beulah Ayer, Norway; Thelma Cunningham, West Minot; Bernice Kehn, Norway; Joanne Lowell, South Paris; Bt. Matthias Tanner, Poland; Alice Tweedie, Rumford.

Last December, Susan Parsons was hired as the new organist and choir director.

In the Episcopal church, a Vestry is not a space or room. It is the elected body of lay leadership, like a board of trustees.
