LEWISTON — State police have charged a local man with forging Maine inspection stickers.
Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said Percy Hutchins, 31, of 1223 Sabattus Road faces aggravated forgery charges after troopers seized 27 counterfeit inspection stickers in his home last week. They seized 10 other stickers in the investigation, according to a statement released by McCausland.
McCausland wrote that glass encased proofs, computers and a printer were seized at the house. Troopers believe the counterfeit stickers were being printed since 2010 and sold for at least $100, according to McCausland’s statement.
Hutchins was released from jail Friday after being charged with aggravated forgery. Jail paperwork didn’t indicate whether he had a lawyer, and a phone number for Hutchins couldn’t be located.
In 2008, Hutchins pleaded guilty in 8th District Court in Lewiston to a single charge of displaying a fictitious vehicle certificate on Oct. 4, 2007, and was fined $100. At the time, he was living in Sabattus.
