WISCASSET — Dirigo jumped out to a big lead in two games Monday, posting a pair of late-season victories over Wiscasset, 16-2, 19-5, in an MVC softball doubleheader.

In the opener, Katelyn Olsen scattered four hits in five innings and received all kinds of run support to notch the win. The Cougars (9-4) held a 11-0 advantage after three stanzas and were never challenged.

In the nightcap, Dirigo erupted for eight runs in the third and completed the sweep in dominant fashion. Ellen Wainwright gave up just five hits in the contest.

Spruce Mountain 17, Wiscasset 7

WISCASSET — Freshman pitcher Alex Bessey scattered six hits in seven innings and drew ample run support, as Spruce Mountain hustled to a 17-7 victory over Wiscasset on Monday.

Patti Ryan led the Phoenix (7-7) with three hits and three RBIs. Bessey, Kailee Newcomb, Megan Duval, Haylen Doyen and Ladesta Tracy (three RBIs) all contributed with two hits in a well-balanced attack.

Brianna Goud smashed a towering home run to left field for the tough-luck Wolverines (1-14) in the third frame.

Hall-Dale 5, Telstar 2

BETHEL — Telstar stranded 12 runners on base and missed several chances to score, as Hall-Dale waltzed away with a 5-2 late-season win in MVC action Monday.

Timely RBI doubles by Becca Ackerson and Olivia Maynard helped the Bulldogs (11-2) maintain control of the contest. Ackerson scattered six hits in the circle for Hall-Dale to notch the win.

The Rebels (8-4) were paced by Sadie Ellsworth and Haley Peterson with two hits apiece.

Mountain Valley 9, Lisbon 7

LISBON — Despite a three-run rally by Lisbon in the fourth inning, Mountain Valley’s early lead paid off as the Falcons held on to post a 9-7 win in a softball tilt.

Allie Carlton and Katie Collette led the Falcons (10-4) with two hits and two RBIs, while Shannon Laubauskas belted a three-run triple.

The Greyhounds were paced by Monica Austin with a pair of hits in the contest.

Baseball

Mountain Valley 4, Lisbon 1

LISBON — Tim Fitzgerald gave up five hits and walked one batter Monday as Mountain Valley hustled to a 4-1 late-seaon victory over Lisbon in an MVC baseball tilt.

Caleb Gauvin led the Falcons (4-10) with a three-run double in the third inning. Logan Willhoite and Nick Newman also contributed with RBI doubles.

The Greyhounds (9-5) were paced by Brett Gravel with a fine RBI single in the second frame. Joe Philbrick went 1-for-3 and scored a run for Lisbon.

Poland 5, Yarmouth 0

POLAND — Lukas Johnson scattered four hits and drew ample run support, as Poland overpowered Yarmouth, 5-0, in baseball action Monday.

Johnson helped his own cause with two hits and two RBIs, while Kaleb Bridgham, Matt Rabasco and Corey Cunliffe all pounded out hits.

The Clippers utilized three pitchers in the contest, with reliever Ryan Nason suffering the loss.
