AUGUSTA (AP) — A Colorado man convicted of stabbing two other men during a drunken brawl sparked by racial slurs outside a Maine bar has been sentenced to more than two years in prison.

Jacob Lynn Hitchcock was sentenced by a judge Thursday in Kennebec County Superior Court to serve two years and three months of a seven-year term, with the remainder suspended for three years. He was also ordered to cover his victims’ medical bills.

Prosecutors said the 27-year-old Hitchcock, of Bennett, Colorado, was working on a pipeline installation project in Maine last November when he went to a Hallowell bar for drinks with co-workers.

Prosecutors said the fight started when Hitchcock used racial slurs against a black man at the bar.

The Kennebec Journal (http://bit.ly/1tW9xWY ) reported that Hitchcock expressed regret in court.
