WILTON — A local songwriter from Wilton, was recently contacted by the new hit TV show “Downeast Dickering” on the History Channel and requested to submit his song “Old Uncle Henry’s” for consideration to be used in the series.
, operator of Countryfolk Music Theatre on U.S. Route 2 in the East Dixfiekd section of Wilton, said, “Tony Bennett of the show contacted me last week and asked me to send a copy of the song to them. The song and the show are both about Uncle Henry’s magazine and how ‘dickering’ is a way of life here in Maine.” He said, “It’s nice to be asked about your songwriting.”
The CD features stories by Bisbee and several songs with music written and performed by Nickels & Dines, Jim Littlefield and Margaret Arsenault of Jay. Bisbee lists them as co-writers of the Uncle Henry’s song as they composed the music for the piece.
Bisbee said he has been writing poetry and song lyrics since the 1970s, had a 26-year stint in broadcasting and was an extra in a couple of movies along the way, “Billy, The Early Years” a Billy Graham biopic, and “Stargate” with actor Kurt Russell. He also wrote and directed the Maine film, “Barefoot Country Girl” that raised several thousand dollars for youth music scholarships.
Bisbee is known regionally as the operator of the Countryfolk Music Theatre now in its 15th year of operation. The venue showcases new and seasoned Maine musicians and songwriters. They have also awarded more than $5,000 to young musicians through their scholarship program.
Countryfolk offers free country music geared toward families each Sunday afternoon in East Dixfield.
