LEWISTON — A local man who owes more than $50,000 in child support payments to his children in Indiana was arrested by state police Thursday night.
James Bellanceau, 43, is wanted in Indiana for felony child nonsupport, according to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Stephen McCausland.
Bellanceau is expected to face a judge to start extradition proceedings, McCausland said.
Bellanceau has lived in Lewiston since 2007. According to Indiana authorities, he never sent any money back to his four children, who live with their mother, McCausland said.
Indiana authorities tracked Bellanceau to Lewiston in recent months, and state troopers were contacted, McCausland said.
Bellanceau surrendered at his apartment at 113 Walnut St. without incident and was taken to Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn.
