RANGELEY — The Rangeley Lakes Region Logging Museum has announced its 2014 season of events.
The museum will open full time from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18. The first event will be the annual auction to be held Saturday, July 5.
There will be a preview at 9:30 a.m. and the auction will begin at 10:30 with complimentary coffee and sweets. Items include artisan gifts, furniture, artwork, historical items such as a numbered Narrow Gauge Railroad lithograph, quilts, gift certificates and baked goods.
The annual Knit & Craft Show and Sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday to Friday, July 12 to 18. Admission is free.
Knitters are invited to bring their projects. Free lessons offered, and knit and craft books will be available by Ecopelagicon. From 12:30 to 2 p.m. storytellers from Western Maine Storytellers Guild will perform.
Rangeley Logging Museum’s 34th annual Logging Festival will be held Friday and Saturday, July 25 and 26. It was voted as “2014’s Best of New England’s Top 20 Events in Maine” by Yankee Magazine.
The festival will kick off at 1 p.m. Bob Giles, “Horse Logging in Down East Maine in the ’50s & ’60s,” will be a demonstration with two teams of draft horses. Bluegrass and traditional music will be provided by the Missisquoi River Band.
Festival-goers will be able to watch the preparation of biscuits on reflector ovens, with free biscuits for all, and the preparation of “burying of the beans” for Saturday’s bean dinner. There will be food booths and logging competition warm-ups.
From 7 to 9 p.m. the “Friday Evening Program” will includes the Little Miss and Mr. Woodchip Contest, Logger’s Hall of Fame and a musical performance by Missisquoi River Band.
The 34th annual Logging Parade will set off at 10 a.m. Saturday and at 11 a.m. the festival will begin at the fairgrounds.
There will be LumberJack and LumberJill logging competition, a baked bean dinner and logging exhibits indoors and outdoors. Chainsaw carvers will be on hand as will woodworker and fiber artisans who will demonstrate their craft/artistry.
A new event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23. The “Trails & Sales Festival” will celebrate the RLRLM’s trail system on 72-acres. Vendors will include a food court, craft, fiber handiwork, woodworkers, produce farms, farmer’s market, holistic and nonprofits. There will be chainsaw carving demonstrations.
The 20th annual Apple Harvest Festival will open with a breakfast bar from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4. Luncheon of beef stew and vegetarian chili will be served. There will be a raffle, largest baked goods and food booth in Rangeley, indoor/outdoor vendors, produce farms, chainsaw carving, apple pressing, children’s pumpkin activity center and Mr. Moose photos.
