WILTON — Townspeople worked their way through 50 articles at Monday’s annual town meeting, approving a $3 million budget for 2014-15, Town Manager Rhonda Irish said Tuesday.
The amount to be raised from taxes is $1.82 million, Irish said.
All articles were passed, she said. A total of 105 registered voters attended the 2½-hour meeting.
Voters approved $105,395 for the Wilton Free Public Library with a comment expressing appreciation for their fundraising efforts, she said. The library budget request was down from $108,675 last year.
They unanimously voted to raise and appropriate $33,700 for street lights. That was the amount recommended by selectmen, while the Finance Committee recommended $34,900. To meet the lower amount, approximately eight streetlights will be turned off.
Voters also approved raising $317,000 for capital paving. The current road plan is is to reconstruct and pave High Street. One or two of Fairview, Curve, Eastern or Webb roads also will be paved, Irish said.
A majority of voters agreed to spend $10,000 on resurfacing the front parking lot at the Town Office. There have been safety concerns, selectmen Chairman Scott Taylor said.
Voters also approved appropriating $56,250 for a town property revaluation/equalization for the second year of a four-year plan. Work is expected to start this summer and be completed for the 2016 tax bills.
Voters agreed to add $300 for the Wilton Area Food Pantry to bring it to $2,300, the same as last year. Selectmen and the Finance Committee recommended reducing it to $2,000 this year.
No funds were approved for the American Red Cross, Irish said. The Finance Committee recommended $500 for the organization with Selectmen making no recommendation. Voters agreed.
