TURNER — Selectmen at a special meeting Friday announced they will consider three options for providing emergency medical services.

The action was prompted by the resignation of Turner Rescue Chief Laurel Gagne, effective June 30. She has been with the service since it was founded in 1978 and volunteered her services.

The three options under study are:

* Appoint a new rescue chief to manage daily functions and prepare plans for the future.

* Partner with another service in a regional arrangement.

* Hire an established service.

Michael Arsenault, a Turner Rescue member and chief of the Fire Department, said, “We have a good core group. We are willing to help move this in the direction we need to go.”

Selectman Kurt Youland made it clear that the board has made no decisions.

“We are continuing to collect ideas and proposals,” he said. “We will have to consider cost as the rescue has operated with a volunteer chief all these years, but compensation for a new chief is not in the budget.

The board said it will make reasonable efforts to ensure the continued employment of rescue personnel or an opportunity to work for a contracted service, if that option is selected.

Selectmen assured residents they will continue to receive professional emergency medical care within a reasonable period of time and will be kept informed of any changes.
