Volunteer fire departments from as far away as New York and as near as Minot trained with a controlled burn at the home of Dianne O’Connor on Marston Hill Road in Minot on Sunday. Mechanic Falls firefighter Ben Limerick said homes that are donated by their owner for training purposes do not come around often, maybe once every two or three years. Small fires were set throughout the morning and then put out. Once flames reached the attic, firefighters let the home burn. “At the end of the day, everything is in the basement,” Limerick said. O’Connor said donating the house made her “feel really good.” “The house is going down in celebration rather than just demolished,” O’Connor said. She and her late husband, Brad, spent 27 years together in the house. “I love this spot. I have been able to prepare emotionally for this all week.” O’Connor plans to rebuild on the same spot and move in by September.
