A Lewiston man was arrested Saturday night, charged with attempting to rob Walmart in Auburn.
Police said Ezra Fitzherbert, 25, walked into the Mount Auburn Avenue store just before midnight and handed a cashier a note demanding cash.
Police said Walmart clerks were able to dial 911, and responding officers located Fitzherbert inside the store. He was arrested without incident. Police said no weapon or threat of a weapon was used in the robbery attempt.
Fitzherbert, who has a minor criminal record in the area, was charged with attempted robbery and taken to the Androscoggin County Jail. He was being held Sunday on $1,500 bail.
Auburn police were continuing to investigate.
