BUCKFIELD — The Board of Selectmen voted 2-1 Tuesday night to offer Turner a proposal to regionalize rescue services.

Turner Rescue’s volunteer chief recently retired and the town has been looking at options for emergency medical services.

In other business, Jerry Wiley was appointed to the Road Committee and Norman Parks III was appointed to the Budget Committee.

The board discussed the option of allowing nonresidents to serve on the Recreation Committee and voted 2-1 to consider accepting applications from Hartford and Sumner residents, pending review of the committee bylaws.

The board discussed cuts that have to be made due to the budget cuts at the town meeting. Rescue Chief Lisa Bennett said her cuts would have to be in staff hours. There was no room for cuts anywhere else in her budget. There was audience discussions over possibly cutting coverage on certain days.

Selectman Cheryl Coffman said, “Is there anyone here who knows on what day they will have a heart attack or fall and break a leg?”

Lucille Allen said, “I don’t see cutting a penny.”

The board voted for Stephen Goldsmith and John Madigan Jr. to serve on the Maine Municipal Association’s Legislative Policy Committee. Madigan is town manager for Mexico and Rumford, and Goldsmith is chairman of the Lovell Board of Selectmen.
