JAY — A crane truck toppled onto its side into a ditch beside Route 156 on Thursday morning, after the driver pulled over to let traffic by.
The Linkletter Trucking vehicle from Athens was headed for Roxbury at about 8:30 a.m., acting police Chief Richard Caton IV said. The 1981 Mack truck was approaching the intersection at Bean’s Corner. It pulled over, sunk down in the soft soil and tipped over, he said.
The driver, Cory Buzzell, 44, and his son, Seth, 13, were not injured, Jay police Cpl. Jeff Fournier said.
Two wreckers from Collins Wreckers in Wilton righted the truck, which is used for wood-chipping work, Caton said.
The Department of Environmental Protection checked truck fluids that leaked into the ditch.
The Maine Department of Transportation checked damage to the road surface, Fournier said, because the wrecker stabilizers sank into it.
The road was shut down to traffic for about an hour, Fournier said.
At first, it was believed the accident was in Wilton so Wilton Fire and Rescue responded and continued to help Jay Police Department officers at the scene.
