OXFORD — Notice to antique and vintage treasure holders: Odd ‘pickings’ are wanted.
“American Pickers,” the popular History Channel show famed for traveling around looking through people’s basements, barns and attics for the unusual or amazing, has announced it will make a stop through Oxford County, if the characters and contents are colorful enough.
Next month, the cast and crew are expected to tour Eastern Maine, and producers are expected to scour the western part of the state, including Oxford County, for good pickings in September.
Producers contacted Oxford County Chamber of Commerce Executive Assistance Jennifer Boenig, looking for leads and spreading the word that professional pickers and show hosts Mike Wolf and Frank Fritz could be coming.
The series has explored Maine twice, stopping in Portland in 2011 and Lisbon in 2012.
Producer Jake Bandman said the crew is looking for people with large private collections, not people with only a few items.
The show seeks out homeowners who’ve amassed a private collection of goods, and forgoes shops, antiques malls, auctions or flea markets because it takes away “the thrill of the hunt.”
Items not considered include agricultural or farming equipment, depression glass, appliances and pottery.
