AUGUSTA (AP) — Democratic candidate Mike Michaud has more than $1 million left in his campaign war chest as he seeks to unseat Gov. Paul LePage this November, according to campaign finance reports filed Tuesday.

Michaud reported raising about $355,000, including in-kind contributions, in the period between May 28 and July 15. He has brought in nearly $2 million total since he formed a committee to explore a run for governor more than a year ago.

The Republican governor’s campaign raised about $234,000 in donations and in-kind contributions over that same period. LePage has about $915,000 cash left and has raised roughly $1.3 million since the beginning of his campaign.

LePage’s campaign touted that it only spent about $65,000 in the month-and-a-half period while Michaud’s campaign went through more than $160,000.

Meanwhile, campaign manager Matt McTighe said in a statement that Michaud’s grassroots support continues to grow.

Independent Eliot Cutler, who has been largely self-financing his campaign, brought in about $192,000 in donations and in-kind contributions and has about $527,000 cash on hand, his campaign said. He matched every donation raised between June 24 and July 15 and donated about $580,000 to his own campaign in the latest filing period.

Since the beginning of the race, Cutler has reported nearly $2 million, including nearly $1 million of his own money.

Cutler, who has declined to take any money from political action committees in the race, said in a statement that Maine people are “tired of special interests running the show in Augusta.”
