ROCKLAND (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard’s Barque Eagle training ship is set to pay a visit to the Maine Lobster Festival.
Organizers said a ceremony will welcome the ship’s cadets and instructors when they arrive at 4 p.m. on Friday. The Eagle is a Coast Guard Academy seafaring classroom for about 175 cadets and instructors.
Friday is the third day of the 67th annual Maine Lobster Festival, which brings about 100,000 people to Rockland’s Harbor Park. The event is the state’s yearly celebration of its signature seafood item. Some 20,000 pounds of lobster will be consumed during the five-day festival.
Friday is also the day of the festival’s seafood cooking contest, which begins at 9 a.m.
