AUBURN — A fox attacked a cat, a boy and an elderly woman in an Auburn neighborhood Saturday before it was killed by a relative of the woman.

It will be tested for rabies.

Auburn police said the fox first appeared Saturday morning in a Winter Street backyard, where it bit a cat. The fox ran off, then reappeared later in another part of the neighborhood and bit a boy. It ran off again, then reappeared on Winter Street and bit an elderly woman on the leg.

A family member of the woman killed the fox with a shovel.

Police said both the boy and the woman were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The fox’s body was turned over to the Maine Warden Service.
